a discussion with Weaver D

What does "Automatic for the People" mean?
That's easy. It stands for ready, quick, and efficient. When you come into my restaurant you realize that I am "Automatic," I wrote this book because I think everyone should be "automatic, too."
Where did the name "Weaver D" come from?
In gym class back in school they used to call us by our last name, first initial, and our number. I was "Weaver D., 43," and it stuck, but the "43" is silent.
What are the faves at Weaver D's?
Everyone loves my Three Cheese Mac'n'Cheese because it's homemade and I use grated cheese; not that instant stuff. Mine has some love in it.
You're known for your sayings. What are a few besides "Automatic for the People?"
I think that everything in lifer is worth a saying. The ones I'm known for most, I guess are: "Come Out of that Coma"; "There's no room for 'can't' in this world"; and "Always be the victor, not the victim." The latest slogans for my restaurant are "Quality Takes Time," and you know it does, and "Y.E.S." which to me means "You are Extra Special," which everyone is in some way.
Why do you think that you've been so successful in the food business and in life?
I think that it comes from positive thinking. This is a gift from God that I wasn't allowed to forget growing up. And, because my mother. She always sent me off to school with a full stomach and knowing to believe in myself.
What is soul food?
Soul food is just food for the soul. You've got to have nutrition for the mind and soul, and nothing is more nutritious all around than good Southern cooking...especially Weaver's.
